Arbaeen 2024 Calendar. Arbaeen, meaning forty in arabic, is one of the world's largest annual pilgrimages. It is observed on safar 20 or 21, the 40th day after ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of imam hussein, the grandson of prophet mohammad, in 680 ad.

Shia pilgrims arrive in the holy city of karbala on friday to commemorate the martyrdom of imam husayn. The arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
